Frequently asked questions
Quick answers about how ReadyForCall works, what's tested, and how your privacy is protected.
Is ReadyForCall really free?+
Yes. Every test — webcam, microphone, speakers, internet speed, network stability, and browser compatibility — is 100% free with no account required. There's no trial, no upsell, and no premium tier.
Does ReadyForCall record or store my video and audio?+
No. All diagnostics run locally in your browser using WebRTC and Web Audio APIs. Your camera and microphone streams are processed in-memory on your device and never sent to any server, never stored, and never seen by us.
Do I need to install anything?+
No installation, no extension, no download. ReadyForCall runs entirely inside your web browser. Just open the diagnostics page and grant permission for each test you want to run.
Which browsers are supported?+
Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari, and other modern browsers all work. For best results we recommend the latest version of Chrome, Edge, or Safari. Embedded in-app browsers (such as those inside Slack or social apps) often lack permissions for camera and microphone access — open the link in a real browser window.
Why isn't my camera or microphone working in the test?+
The most common cause is a blocked browser permission. Click the padlock icon in your address bar, set Camera and Microphone to Allow (or Ask), then reload the page. If the device still isn't detected, make sure no other application (Zoom, Teams, Discord) is currently holding it.
How accurate is the internet speed test?+
The speed test measures real download throughput against a globally distributed CDN, which closely matches what video call platforms experience. For day-to-day call quality, latency, jitter, and packet loss matter more than raw bandwidth — ReadyForCall measures all of them.
Will ReadyForCall work behind a corporate firewall or VPN?+
In most cases, yes. The diagnostic page itself loads over standard HTTPS. Some corporate networks block WebRTC traffic, which can cause individual tests (especially network and speed) to fail or report degraded results. If that happens, the result still reflects what your call apps will experience on the same network.
Do I need to create an account?+
No. ReadyForCall is fully anonymous — no sign-up, no email, no tracking. There's nothing to register and nothing to forget.
Can I use ReadyForCall on a phone or tablet?+
Yes. The site works on iOS Safari and Android Chrome, and the camera, microphone, and speed tests are all supported on mobile. Some advanced network metrics are limited by what mobile browsers expose, but the core checks cover what matters before a mobile call.
Why does my webcam look worse on calls than in the test?+
Call platforms downscale video based on bandwidth, CPU load, and the number of participants. ReadyForCall shows your camera at its best possible quality. If the call image is much worse, the bottleneck is usually your upload speed, network stability, or the call platform's quality settings — not the camera itself.
