Need the full battery? Run all six diagnostics — webcam, microphone, speakers, speed, network, and browser checks — in one pass.

A microphone test confirms three things: the operating system sees the device, your browser has permission to use it, and audio is actually reaching the input. The level meter above moves when sound hits the mic — if it stays flat while you speak, one of those three layers is broken.

How to test your microphone here

Click Start and approve the permission prompt. Speak at normal volume — you should see the meter respond within the first second. Use the device dropdown if you want to test a specific input (USB mic, headset, Bluetooth earbuds). The peak level tells you whether the gain is set high enough for a video call.

If the meter doesn't move

First, confirm you picked the right input device — browsers default to whatever was active when permission was first granted, which may be unplugged. Second, make sure no other app is holding the mic; fully quit Zoom, Teams, Discord, and OBS. Third, check OS-level permission: on macOS in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone, on Windows in Settings → Privacy → Microphone.

Privacy: zero recording, zero upload

The audio stream is analyzed locally in your browser to render the level meter, then discarded. ReadyForCall does not record, store, transmit, or transcribe any audio. The connection between your microphone and this page never reaches a server.

Frequently asked questions

How do I test my microphone online?

Click Start above and grant microphone permission. The level meter responds to your voice in real time — if the bars move when you speak, the mic is working. No recording is saved or uploaded.

Why isn't my microphone working in Chrome?

Open the padlock in your address bar and confirm Microphone is set to Allow. Then check that no other app (Zoom, Teams, Discord) is holding the mic — fully quit them, don't just close the window. On macOS, also check System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone.

Does this mic test record my voice?

No. The audio stream is analyzed live in your browser to draw the level meter and is discarded the instant you stop the test. Nothing is saved on your device, sent to a server, or shared with any third party.

Can I test a USB or Bluetooth microphone?

Yes. Any input the operating system recognizes appears in the device dropdown — built-in laptop mics, USB condensers, headset mics, AirPods, and Bluetooth headsets all work in this online microphone test.
